Rubber Band Ball

Look what Rain showed the class today.

• Over 1000 rubber bands
• Her Uncle Jason made it.
• The rubber band ball has a tiny piece of paper in the middle of it.
• You start off by tying a knot around a small piece of paper, then you just keep adding rubber bands.

Now that's a bright wall!

 Standing in Room 14 has become quite a magical experience, especially if you are looking at the wall, covered in eye-catching art.

The close up bird shots with the delightful colourful beaks are a visual spectacular!

 Come and admire the stained glass like images created on Room 14's trip to the 

Tairawhiti Museum on March 28th. 

Tairawhiti Museum Visit

Week 9, Term 1,
T he Rangi Syndicate are visiting the Tairawhiti Museum.
Today Room 13 went to experience the Graffiti Light Lesson. 

Diaramas

 Rangi students became the teachers.
Teaching the younger students of the school about Diaramas.

They showed the diaramas they made and answered questions.
Thank you Room 1, 2, 3, 4 and Waimata for coming in and letting us show you our work.

Origami Lesson

 Keelan Wray taught his class today.
He prepared an origami slideshow the night before.
Thinking ahead, he prepared 30 pieces of square paper and then guided the class to follow the instructions on his slideshow so that everyone could make a sail boat.

Keelan, thank you for your patience with the class and your gentle guiding nature in helping us all succeed.

Mrs Twit?

Mrs Chrisp is visiting a Rangi Class introducing a "Passion for Reading".   We love her visits as we explore and get excited about reading.

Mrs Cameron talks about her beautiful daughter (one of them)

"Wonderstruck" the shared book in Room 13 has two main characters, Rose and Ben.

Both characters have something in common, they are deaf.

We asked Mrs Cameron to come and talk to us about her daughter Amanda who is at University studying  architecture (Clever!) She has faced the extra challenge of deafness along the way.
Mrs Cameron taught us some sign language.
Thank you Mrs Cameron, it was really special to hear the story of your daughter.

Rm 16 Waioeka Gorge landslide project

Rm 16 have been doing a project on the Waioeka Gorge slip. We split ourselves into groups. The groups that we had were History, Businesses Affected, Title Page, Transport, People Affected, Facts, Machinery. Each group had to make a large poster about their subject.We also did a page of how students and their families have been affected. We spent every afternoon for a week studying the Waioeka Gorge's massive slip. We have learned quite a lot about the Gorge while we have been studying. We enjoyed the study. Come and have a look in Room 16 some time!

Michelle from Gisborne Netball.

A great netball training session was held today.  Thank you Michelle from Gisborne Netball who came to Gisborne Central School at lunchtime today.  The next session is 26th April at 3pm.

Today at lunchtime the children spotted a visitor high up in the tree.

Eli Ardern, a Rangi student delivered his news to the class.  The article was very sad about a man who had a terrible accident involving a bolt in his head.

Eli brought along a bolt that was the same size as the one mentioned in the article.

OH No!   what went wrong?
This reading group enjoyed the article about how to make gloop.  So we went ahead to make our own, but gloop failure - any gloop tips out there people?  Feel free to post a comment.

SWIMMING SPORTS - Dolphin Day 2012

CAMP TWO RETURNS

We did it!
All year six students have now enjoyed camp Kaitawa.
The second camp returned to school on Friday 2nd March.

The Travelling Musicians

Today the Rangi Syndicate watched a very special performance by David and Sol.
David is from Ireland and Sol is from Argentina.  They performed some traditional Irish songs as well as a beuatiful spanish song.
